What is the CRA T2200 form?
The T2200 (Declaration of Conditions of Employment) is a Canadian tax form that employers complete for employees who need to deduct employment expenses on their personal income tax return. The employer declares the conditions of employment — whether the employee was required to work from home, use a personal vehicle, pay for supplies, or incur other work-related expenses. The employee then uses the T2200 to support their expense claims on Form T777.
Since the shift to remote and hybrid work, T2200 volume has increased significantly. Companies with hundreds of remote workers need to issue hundreds of T2200 forms each tax season. The official fillable PDF is available from canada.ca.
Who needs to batch fill T2200 forms?
- Canadian employers with remote/hybrid employees — Any company with employees working from home needs to issue T2200 forms so those employees can claim home office deductions.
- HR departments — Processing T2200 requests for the entire workforce during tax season, often hundreds of forms in a short window.
- Companies with sales or travel staff — Employees who use personal vehicles or pay for work-related travel, meals, or supplies need T2200 forms from their employer.
- Payroll service providers — Processing T2200 forms on behalf of multiple client companies, multiplying the volume.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Using T2200 instead of T2200S. The T2200S is the simplified short form specifically for work-from-home expenses. If your employees only claim home office expenses (no vehicle, travel, or supplies), the T2200S may be more appropriate.
- SIN formatting. Use the XXX XXX XXX format with spaces. Excel may treat SINs as numbers and strip leading zeros — format the column as text.
- Yes/No fields. The T2200 has many yes/no checkboxes. Use consistent values in your Excel data — 'Yes'/'No' or 'true'/'false'. Inconsistent values will leave checkboxes unfilled.
